Why end grain?
End grain cutting boards are built differently than standard cutting boards. Instead of cutting across the wood fibers, the surface is made up of vertically oriented grain, allowing your knife edge to move between the fibers rather than against them.
This construction makes end grain boards more durable over time and significantly more forgiving on knife edges. Rather than leaving deep, permanent cuts, the wood fibers naturally close back together after use, which helps reduce visible wear and extends the life of the board.
Because of the way they’re constructed, end grain boards are also more stable and resistant to long-term damage when properly maintained. With regular oiling, they hold up well to everyday use in the kitchen.
Beyond function, end grain boards highlight the natural patterns of the wood in a unique way. Each piece is made from multiple sections of wood arranged to bring out contrast, grain direction, and variation in color — making every board one of a kind.
The result is a board that is not only built to last, but also meant to be used and displayed.
